- English1. The Senate will be composed of seventy senators who are elected for a mandate of five years by universal, direct and secret suffrage in general elections that are celebrated on one sole day and within the sixty days before or following the expiration of their mandate.
2. The law determines the number of senators of free appointment [designaci6n] of the President of the Republic among the seventy senators.
3. The Electoral Law defines the electoral circumscriptions and determines the number of seats corresponding to each one, the regime of eligibility and ineligibility and [of] compatibility and incompatibility of the senators and develops other aspects of the electoral process.
4. Seats are attributed to each territorial representation and to the local corporations. (Art. 84) - Spanish1. El Senado está integrado por setenta senadores que son elegidos por un mandato de cinco años mediante sufragio universal directo y secreto en elecciones generales que se celebran en un solo día y dentro de los sesenta días antes o después de la expiración de su mandato.
2. La ley determina el número de senadores de libre designación por el Presidente de la República de entre los setenta senadores.
3. La Ley Electoral define las circunscripciones electorales y determina el número de escaños correspondientes a cada una, el régimen de elegibilidad e inelegibilidad y compatibilidad e incompatibilidad de los senadores y desarrolla los demás aspectos del proceso electoral.
4. Los escaños se atribuyen a cada representación territorial y a las corporaciones locales. (Art. 84) - French1. 2. La loi détermine le nombre de sénateurs librement désignés par le Président de la République parmi les soixante-dix sénateurs.
3. La loi électorale définit les circonscriptions électorales et détermine le nombre de sièges correspondant à chacune d'elles, le régime d'éligibilité et d'inéligibilité ainsi que de compatibilités et d'incompatibilités des sénateurs et précise les autres éléments du processus électoral.
