- English(a) The Human Rights Commission’s responsibilities and powers shall include the following:
1. to promote respect for human rights;
2. to promote the protection, development and attainment of human rights;
3. to monitor and assess the observance of human rights.
(b)The Human Rights Commission shall have the following functions and powers, as regulated by law:
1. to investigate and to report on the observance of human rights;
2. to take steps to secure appropriate redress where human rights have been violated;
3. to carry out research, and to educate the public;
4. to exercise such additional powers and functions prescribed by law. (Art. 192) - Dhivehi(ހ) ހިއުމަން ރައިޓްސް ކޮމިޝަނުގެ މަސްއޫލިއްޔަތުތަކާއި ބާރުތަކުގެ ތެރޭގައި އަންނަނިވި ކަންކަން ހިމެނެއެވެ.
1. އިންސާނީ ޙައްޤުތަކަށް މީހުންގެ ހިތްތަކުގައި އިޙްތިރާމް އަށަގެންނެވުމަށް މަސައްކަތްކުރުން.
2. އިންސާނީ ޙައްޤުތައް ރައްކާރެއިކުރުމާއި، ކުރިއެރުވުމަށާއި، އެ ޙާއްޤުތައް ހޯދައިދިނުމަށް މަސައްކަތްކުރުން.
3. އިންސާނީ ޙައްޤުތަކަށް ޙުރުމަތްތެރިކޮށް ހިތާމިންވަރު ބަލައި ވަޒަންކުރުން.
(ށ) ހިއުމަން ރައިޓްސް ކޮމިޝަނުގެ މަސްއޫލިއްޔަތުތައް އަދާކުރުމަށްޓަކައި، ޤާނޫނެއް ކަނޑައަޅާ ބާރުތަކެއް އެ ކޮމިޝަނަށް ލިބިގެންވެއެވެ. އޭގެ ތެރޭގައި އަންނަނިވި ކަންތައްތައް ހިމެނެއެވެ.
1. އިންސާނީ ޙައްޤުތަކަށް ޙުރުމަތްރެއިކޮށް ހިތާމިންވަރު ތަޙުޤީޤުކޮށް އަންގާންޖެހޭ ފަރާތްތަކށް އެންގުން.
2. އިންސާނީ ޙައްގެއް ނިގުޅައިގެންފިނަމަ، ޤާނޫނުގައިވާ ގޮތުގެމަތީން އަޅަންޖެހޭ ފިޔަވަޅުތައް އެޅުން.
3.އިންސާނީ ޙައްޤުތަކާ ގުޅޭ އެކިއެކި ދިރާސާތައްކުރުމާއި އެޙައްގުތަކާ ބެހޭ ގޮތުން ޢާންމު ހޭލުންތެރިކަން އިތުރު ކުރުވުން.
4. ހިއުމަން ރައިޓްސް ކޮމިޝަނަށް ޤާނޫނުން ލިބިދޭ އިތުރު ބާރުތަކާއި ހަވާލުކުރެވޭ އިތުރު މަސްއޫލިއްޔަތުތައް. (ޤާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 192 ވަނަ މާއްދާ)

- EnglishThe Ombudsman is an independent authority created within the sphere of the National Congress operating with full autonomy and without receiving instructions from any other authority. The mission of the Ombudsman is the defense and protection of human rights and other rights, guarantees and interests sheltered under this Constitution and the laws, in the face of deeds, acts or omissions of the Administration; as well as the control of public administrative functions.
The Ombudsman has capacity to be a party in a lawsuit. He is appointed and removed by Congress with the vote of two-thirds of the members present of each House.

- EnglishThe Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman shall have as its duties the protection and guardianship of the rights of the inhabitants of Ecuador and the defense of the rights of Ecuadorian nationals living abroad. It shall have the following attributions, in addition to those provided for by law:
1. To support, by virtue of its office or at the request of a party, the actions of protection, habeas corpus, access to public information, habeas data, noncompliance, citizen action and complaints for poor quality or improper provision of public or private services.
2. To issue measures of mandatory and immediate compliance for the protection of rights and to request trial and punishment from the competent authority for their violations.
3. To investigate and rule, in the framework of its attributions, on the deeds or omissions of natural persons or legal entities that provide public services.
4. To exercise and promote surveillance of due process of law and to immediately prevent and stop all forms of cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment. (Art. 215) - SpanishLa Defensoría del Pueblo tendrá como funciones la protección y tutela de los derechos de los habitantes del Ecuador y la defensa de los derechos de las ecuatorianas y ecuatorianos que estén fuera del país. Serán sus atribuciones, además de las establecidas en la ley, las siguientes:
1. El patrocinio, de oficio o a petición de parte, de las acciones de protección, hábeas corpus, acceso a la información pública, hábeas data, incumplimiento, acción ciudadana y los reclamos por mala calidad o indebida prestación de los servicios públicos o privados.
2. Emitir medidas de cumplimiento obligatorio e inmediato en materia de protección de los derechos, y solicitar juzgamiento y sanción ante la autoridad competente, por sus incumplimientos.
3. Investigar y resolver, en el marco de sus atribuciones, sobre acciones u omisiones de personas naturales o jurídicas que presten servicios públicos.
4. Ejercer y promover la vigilancia del debido proceso, y prevenir, e impedir de inmediato la tortura, el trato cruel, inhumano y degradante en todas sus formas. (Art. 215)
