11. The State shall secure the broadest freedom for the political parties. Without prejudice to the former, the parties shall:
a. effectively exercise internal democracy in the election of their authorities; [and,]
b. provide maximum publicity to their Organic Acts [Cartas Orgánicas] and Programs of Principles, in such a manner that the citizen can extensively familiarize himself with them.
12. The political parties shall elect their candidate for the President of the Republic by way of internal elections that the law shall regulate, sanctioned by the vote of two-thirds of the total of the members of each Chamber. Their organization, structure and functioning shall be democratic and shall guarantee rotation of power, accountability, and parity membership between women and men on their governing boards. They shall choose their board members and candidates by means of internal electoral processes or primaries. The electoral campaigns that advance the candidates endorsed by parties and movements with Juridical Personality or significant groups of citizens, will be financed partially with the state resources.
The law will determine the percentage of voting necessary to have right to this financing.
It also may limit the amount of the expenses that the parties, movements, significant groups of citizens or candidates may realize in electoral campaigns, as well as the maximum amount of the private contributions, in accordance with the law.
A percentage of the financing will be given to parties and movements with Juridical Personality in force, and to the significant groups of citizens who endorse candidates, before the election, or the consultations[,] in accordance with the conditions and guarantees that the law determines and with authorization of the National Electoral Council.

Las campañas electorales que adelanten los candidatos avalados por partidos y movimientos con Personería Jurídica o por grupos significativos de ciudadanos, serán financiadas parcialmente con recursos estatales.
La ley determinará el porcentaje de votación necesario para tener derecho a dicha financiación.

- English1. The State shall accept the freedom of citizens to create political organizations, subject to the limitations which stem from the law.
2. Political organizations shall respect the national sovereignty and democracy.
3. In exercising their rights the political organizations shall take into account the following:
a. Their goals may not be in violation of or incompatible with the Constitution and the laws;
b. The organization shall be accessible to the Suriname citizen, who fulfills criteria to be defined by law provided that he agrees upon the basic principles of the party.
c. The internal organization must be democratic, which shall be evidenced inter alia by:
- regular committee elections;
- the prerequisite that candidates proposed of the chamber of representatives shall be elected within the party structures;
d. The electorate shall be informed of the political program and the election program of the political organizations;
e. Annual publications of sources of income and accounts shall be made in the Official Journal of the Republic of Suriname and at least one newspaper;
f. Their functioning shall be in accordance with principles of good administration, and with prescribed legal rules for the guaranteeing of openness and transparency;

2. Politieke organisaties moeten de nationale souvereiniteit en de democratie respecteren.

a. de doelstellingen mogen niet strijdig en onverenigbaar zijn met de Grondwet en met de wetten;
b. de organisaties moeten voor elke Surinaamse burger, die voldoet aan de door de wet te stellen criteria, toegankelijk zijn, mits deze de beginselen van de partij onderschrijft;
c. de interne organisatie moet democratisch zijn, hetgeen onder meer tot uitdrukking dient te worden gebracht door:
- regelmatige bestuursverkiezingen;
- het vereiste dat voorgedragen kandidaten voor de volksvertegenwoordigingen binnen de partijstructuren moeten zijn verkozen;
d. de kiezers in staat te stellen kennis te kunnen nemen van het beginselprogramma en het verkiezingsprogramma van de politieke organisaties;
e. jaarlijkse publikaties van inkomstenbronnen en rekeningen in het Advertentieblad van de Republiek Suriname en tenminste een dagblad;
f. het functioneren moet beantwoorden aan de beginselen van behoorlijk bestuur, alsmede aan de gestelde wettelijke regels voor de waarborging van de openbaarheid en inzichtelijkheid;
g. het samenstellen van een programma, met als enig doel de behartiging van het nationaal belang. (Art. 53)

- EnglishThe State shall promote equality with respect to the representation of women and men in publicly appointed or elected office, in its executive and decision-making institutions, and political parties and movements. As for candidacies in multi-person elections, their participation shall be respected by rotation of power and sequencing.
The State shall adopt affirmative action measures to guarantee the participation of discriminated sectors. (Art. 65) - SpanishEl Estado promoverá la representación paritaria de mujeres y hombres en los cargos de nominación o designación de la función pública, en sus instancias de dirección y decisión, y en los partidos y movimientos políticos. En las candidaturas a las elecciones pluripersonales se respetará su participación alternada y secuencial.
El Estado adoptará medidas de acción afirmativa para garantizar la participación de los sectores discriminados. (Art. 65)
