The President of the Republic is the Head of State. He incarnates the national unity. He sees to respect for the Constitution. He assures the continuity of the State. He is the guarantor of the national independence, of the integrity of the territory and of respect for international commitments. (Art. 54)

Le Président de la République est le Chef de l'Etat. Il incarne l'unité nationale. Il veille au respect de la Constitution. Il assure la continuité de l'Etat. Il est le garant de l'indépendance nationale, de l'intégrité du territoire et du respect des engagements internationaux. (Art. 54)

The President of the Republic is elected for five years by universal direct suffrage.

The candidate to the presidential election must enjoy their civil and political rights and must be thirty-five years of age at least. They must be exclusively of Ivoirian nationality, born to a father or to a mother Ivoirian of origin. (Art. 55) - French
