Status of the Constitution

    … The interim National Transitional Council has decided to promulgate this Constitutional Declaration in order to be the basis of governance in the transitional stage until a permanent Constitution is ratified in a popular referendum. (Preamble)

Status of the Constitution

    Constitutional documents and laws which were applicable before this Declaration entered into force shall be repealed. (Art. 34)

    تُلغى الوثائق والقوانين ذات الطبيعة الدُّستُورية المعمول بها قبل العمل بهذا الإعلان. (المادّة 34)

Status of the Constitution

    All the provisions prescribed in existing legislation shall continue to be effective in so far as they are not inconsistent with the provisions hereof until they are amended or repealed.

Constitutional Declaration of Libya 2011 (English). We are aware 12 amendments to the present declaration were adopted. To date, no English consolidated version is available publicly. Translation efforts are underway. According to Art. 1: “… Arabic is its official language. …”
