The Legislative Power is exercised by the National Assembly by delegation and mandate of the people. The National Assembly is integrated by ninety Deputies with their respective substitutes elected by universal, equal, direct, free, and secret vote through the system of proportional representation.

1. To be Deputy the following qualifications [calidades] are required:
a. To be a national of Nicaragua. Those who have acquired other nationality must have renounced it at least four years before the election is verified.
b. To be in full enjoyment of one's civil and political rights;
c. To have completed twenty-one years of age;
d. To have resided or worked in continuous form in the country [for] the four years prior to the election, save that during this period [periodo] fulfilling diplomatic missions or working in international organs [organismos] or realizing studies abroad. Also, to have been born or resided for the last two years in the Department or Autonomous Region for which he intends to be [salir] elected.
