The President of the State is the Head of State of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the representative of the multi-ethnic Lao people both within the country and abroad; The President of the State is also the head of national defence and national security, the general of the armed civilian army for independent protection, democracy, defending the homeland and securing peace and stability of the nation. (Art. 65)

ປະທານປະເທດ ເປັນປະມຸກລັດ ແຫ່ງ ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, ເປັນຜູ້ຕາງໜ້າປະຊາຊົນລາວບັນດາເຜົ່າ ທັງຢູ່ພາຍໃນ ແລະ ຕ່າງປະເທດ, ເປັນປະທານສະພາປ້ອງກັນຊາດ-ປ້ອງກັນຄວາມສະຫງົບແຫ່ງຊາດ, ເປັນແມ່ທັບກຳລັງປະກອບອາວຸດປະຊາຊົນ ເພື່ອຮັບປະກັນ ຄວາມເປັນເອກະລາດ, ອຳນາດອະທິປະໄຕ, ຜືນແຜ່ນດິນອັນຄົບຖ້ວນ, ສະຖຽນລະພາບ ແລະ ຄວາມໝັ້ນຄົງ ຂອງປະເທດຊາດ.
