- English(a) The legislative authority of the Maldives shall be vested in the People’s Majlis.

- English(a) Each administrative division shall establish separate electoral constituencies in accordance with the principles specified in Article 71 of this Constitution. All members shall be elected from a separate electoral constituency.
(b) The person elected from amongst those standing for election in each separate electoral constituency shall be the person receiving the greatest number of votes by secret ballot.
… (Art. 72) - Dhivehi(ހ) މިޤާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 71 ވަނަ މާއްދާ ގައި ބަޔާންކޮށްފައިވާ އުސޫލާ ހިލާފުނުވާނޭހެން، ކޮންމެ އިދާރީ ދާއިރާއަކުން ވަކި އިންތިހާބީ ދާއިރާތަކެއް ކަނޑައަޅާންވާނެއެވެ. މިއިން ކޮންމެ އިންތިހާބީ ދާއިރާއަކުން އިންތިހާބްކުރާނީ އެއް މެންބަރެވެ.
(ށ) ކޮންމެ އިންތިހާބީ ދާއިރާއެއްގައި ވާދާކުރާ މީހުންގެ ތެރެއިން އިންތިޚާބުވާނީ، އެދާއިރާއެއްގައި ވޯޓުދޭ ރައްޔިތުންގެ ސިއްރުވޯޓަކުން އެންމެ ގިނަ ވޯޓު ލިބޭ މީހެކެވެ.

- English(a) A person elected to be a member of the People’s Majlis shall be so qualified if he:
1. is a citizen of the Maldives;
2. is not a citizen of a foreign country;
3. is a Muslim and a follower of a Sunni school of Islam;
4. has attained the age of eighteen years; and
5. is of sound mind.

(b) A person who has acquired Maldivian citizenship is qualified to be a member of the People’s Majlis five years after the acquisition of citizenship and is domiciled in the Maldives.
… (Art. 73) - Dhivehi(ހ) ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހުގެ މެންބަރުކަމަށް އިންތިހާބްކުރެވޭ މީހެއްގައި އަންނަނިވި ޝަރުތުތައް ފުރިހަމަވާންވާނެއެވެ.
1. ދިވެހިރައްޔިތަކަށްވުން
.2. ބޭރުޤައުމެއްގެ ރައްޔިތަކަށް ނުވުން.
3. މުސްލިމަކު ކަމުގައިވުމާއި، ސުންނަތް ޖަމާއަތުގެ މީހަކުކަމުގައިވުން.
4. އުމުރުން އަށާރަ އަހަރު ފުރިފައިވުން.
5. ބުއްދި ހަމައަށް ހުރި މީހަކުކަމުގައިވުން.

(ށ) ބޭރުޤައުމެއްގެ ރައްޔިތަކު ދިވެހިރައްޔިތަކަށް ވެފައިވާ ނަމަ، އެ މީހަކަށް ރައްޔިތުންގެ މިޖިލީހުގެ މެންބަރުކަމަށް ކުރިމަތިލެވޭނީ، އެ މީހަކު ދިވެހިރައްޔިތަކަށްވީތާ ފަސް އަހަރު ފުރުމަށްފަހުގައެވެ. އަދި އެމީހަކީ ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގައި ދިރިއުޅެމުންދާ މީހަކު ކަމުގައި ވާންވާނެއެވެ....
