The State must procure that everyone has an honest and useful occupation, duly remunerated, and because of this to impede the establishment of conditions that in some form diminish the freedom or the dignity of man or degrade his work to the condition of simple merchandise. The State guarantees the right to free election of [a] job. (Art. 56)

El Estado debe procurar que todos tengan ocupación honesta y útil, debidamente remunerada, e impedir que por causa de ella se establezcan condiciones que en alguna forma menoscaben la libertad o la dignidad del hombre o degraden su trabajo a la condición de simple mercancía. The law defines other cases in which exceptions may be made to approve alternative workdays or working systems, with the necessary proportion of time devoted to work and breaks. The State will employ all of the resources that are within its reach [in order] to provide [an] occupation for the worker, manual or intellectual, and to assure him and his family the economic conditions for a dignified existence. In equal form it will promote the work and the employment of the persons with physical, mental or social limitations or disabilities.
