- English(1) Any person interpreting or applying this Constitution must promote the spirit, purpose and objects of this Constitution as a whole, and the values that underlie a democratic society based on human dignity, equality and freedom.
(2) If a law appears to be inconsistent with a provision of this Constitution, the court must adopt a reasonable interpretation of that law that is consistent with the provisions of this Constitution over an interpretation that is inconsistent with this Constitution.

Status of the Constitution
- English1. This Constitution shall enter into force upon signature of the General Framework Agreement as a constitutional act amending and superseding the Constitution of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
2. Within three months from the entry into force of this Constitution, the Entities shall amend their respective constitutions to ensure their conformity with this Constitution in accordance with Article III(3)(b). (Art. XII) - Bosnian1. Ustav će stupiti na snagu po potpisivanju Opšteg okvirnog sporazuma kao ustavni akt, kojim se amandmanski zamjenjuje i stavlja van snage Ustav Republike Bosne i Hercegovine.
2. U roku od tri mjeseca od stupanja na snagu ovog Ustava, entiteti će amandmanskim postupkom izmijeniti svoje ustave da bi se osigurala saglasnost sa ovim Ustavom u skladu sa članom III, stav 3, tačka (b). (Član XII) - Croatian1. Ovaj Ustav će stupiti na snagu nakon potpisivanja Općeg okvirnog sporazuma kao ustavni akt koji zamjenjuje i stavlja van snage Ustav Republike Bosne i Hercegovine.
2. U roku od tri mjeseca od stupanja na snagu ovoga Ustava, entiteti će izvršiti izmjene svojih ustava kako bi ih usuglasili s ovim Ustavom, sukladno članku III, stavak 3, točka (b). (Članak XII) - Serbian1. Овај Устав ступа на снагу по потписивању Општег оквирног споразума као уставни акт који замјењује и ставља ван снаге Устав Републике Босне и Херцеговине.
2. У року од три мјесеца по ступању на снагу овог Устава, ентитети ће амандманским поступком измијенити своје уставе како би обезбиједили њихову сагласност са овим Уставом, у складу са чланом III, став 3, тачка (b). (Члан XII)
