1. The Governor-General shall by notice published in the Gazette appoint a Supervisor of Elections on resolutions to that effect of both Houses of Parliament specifying the person nominated for appointment.
2. The Supervisor of Elections shall have and exercise such functions, powers and duties as may be provided by law.

In order to guarantee the freedom, fairness and effectiveness of popular elections, an autonomous and independent tribunal is established, called Electoral Tribunal, which shall have legal personality, its own funds and the right to administer them. The electoral system is composed of the National Jurado [Board] of Elections; the National Office of Electoral Processes; and the National Register of Identification and Civil Estate. They act with autonomy and maintain between them relations of coordination, in accordance with their attributions. (Art. 177)

The members of the National Electoral Council and the Electoral Dispute Settlement Court shall be designated by the Council for Public Participation and Social Control, after selection by a competitive and merit-based examination, with candidacies submitted by the citizenry and citizen right to challenge, as well as the guarantee of equity and parity between men and women, in accordance with the law. Everything else relating to universal suffrage, the creation of an independent electoral council and its authority the division of Suriname in electoral districts, the repartition of seats in the National Assembly by electoral district and the methods according to which the allocation of seats takes place shall be regulated by law. This law shall be passed with a 2/3 majority. (Art. 60)

A special tribunal, which will be denominated the Qualifying Tribunal of Elections, will take cognizance of the general scrutiny and of the qualification of the elections of President of the Republic, of Deputies and Senators; it will resolve the complaints which derive from them and will proclaim those who are elected. Said Tribunal will take cognizance, likewise, of the plebiscites and will have the other attributions that the law determines.

(1) The Elections Commission shall have such functions connected with or relating to the registration of electors or the conduct of elections as are conferred upon it by or under this Constitution or, subject thereto, any Act of Parliament; and, subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the Commission -
(a) shall exercise general direction and supervision over the registration of electors and the administrative conduct of all elections of members of the National Assembly; and
(b) shall issue such instructions and take such action as appear to it necessary or expedient to ensure impartiality, fairness and compliance with the provisions of this Constitution or of any Act of Parliament on the part of persons exercising powers or performing duties connected with or relating to the matters aforesaid.

The following are functions of Electoral Power:
1. To regulate election laws and resolve any doubts and unregulated areas raised by or contained in such laws.

4. To declare elections null and void, either in whole or in part.
5. Organization, administration, direction and vigilance of all acts relating to elections to fill public offices by popular vote, as well as referenda.

Electoral Power organs shall guarantee the equality, reliability, impartiality, transparency and efficiency of electoral processes, as well as implementation of the personalization of suffrage and proportional representation. (Art. 293)
