The President of the Republic shall be elected by the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania for a five-year term by universal, equal, and direct suffrage by secret ballot.

A citizen of the Republic of Belarus by birth, not younger than 40 years of age, who is eligible to vote, has been permanently resident in the Republic of Belarus for at least 20 years immediately prior to the election, and who has not previously held a foreign citizenship or residence permit or other document of a foreign state entitling him to privileges and other advantages may be elected President.
