Head of State

    1. The President of the Republic is the Head of State, [and] exercises the Executive Power as Head of Government. He incarnates the national unity, defines the policy of the Nation, sees to the respect of the Fundamental Law, assures by his arbitration the functioning of the public powers, represents the Nation, and is the guarantor of National Independence. He is elected by universal, direct and secret suffrage by simple majority of the votes validly emitted.

    1. El Presidente de la República es el Jefe de Estado, ejerce el Poder Ejecutivo como Jefe de Gobierno. Encarna la unidad nacional, define la política de la Nación, vela por el respeto de la Ley Fundamental, asegura con su arbitraje el funcionamiento de los poderes públicos, representa a la Nación, y es el garante de la Independencia Nacional. Es elegido por sufragio universal, directo y secreto por mayoría simple de los votos válidamente emitidos.

    1. Le Président de la République est le chef de l'Etat ; il exerce le pouvoir exécutif en tant que chef du gouvernement. Il incarne l'unité nationale, définit la politique de la Nation, veille au respect de la Loi fondamentale, assure par son arbitrage le fonctionnement des pouvoirs publics, représente la Nation et il est garant de l'indépendance nationale. Il est élu au suffrage universel, direct et secret à la majorité relative des suffrages valablement exprimés.

Head of State
  • English
    To be President of the Republic [it] is required:
    a) To be Equatoguinean of origin.
    b) To be in enjoyment of the rights of citizenship.
    c) To have resided in the Country for five uninterrupted years.
    d) To be able to interpret the Fundamental Law.
    e) To have been elected in accordance with this Fundamental Law and other laws.
    f) To be forty years [of age] as [a] minimum.
    g) To not have other nationality. (Art. 35)
  • Spanish
    Para ser Presidente de la República se requiere:
    a) Ser ecuatoguineano de origen.
    b) Estar en gozo del derecho de la ciudadanía.
    c) Tener arraigo en el País durante cinco años ininterrumpidos.
    d) Saber interpretar la Ley Fundamental.
    e) Haber sido elegido conforme a esta Ley Fundamental y demás leyes.
    f) Tener cuarenta años como mínimo.
    g) No tener ninguna otra nacionalidad. (Art. 35)
  • French
    Pour être Président de la République, il faut:
    a) Être d'origine équatoguinéenne.
    b) Jouir de ses droits civiques.
    c) Vivre dans le pays depuis cinq ans sans interruption.
    d) Savoir interpréter la Loi fondamentale.
    e) Avoir été élu conformément à la présente Loi fondamentale et aux autres lois.
    f) Être âgé d'au moins quarante ans.
    g) Ne pas avoir d'autre nationalité. (Art. 35).
