Head of State
- EnglishThe President of the Republic is the Head of State; he sees to the respect for the Constitution; he assures, by his arbitration, the regular functioning of the public powers as well as the continuity of the State.
He is the guarantor of the national independence, of the integrity of the territory, of respect for the agreements and treaties. He determines the policy of the Nation.
The President of the Republic is the supreme holder of the executive power. (Art. 8) - FrenchLe Président de la République est le Chef de l'Etat ; il veille au respect de la Constitution ; il assure, par son arbitrage, le fonctionnement régulier des pouvoirs publics ainsi que la continuité de l'Etat.
Il est le garant de l'indépendance nationale, de l'intégrité du territoire, du respect des accords et traités. Il détermine la politique de la Nation.
Le Président de la République est le détenteur suprême du pouvoir exécutif. (Art. 8)
Head of State
- EnglishThe President of the Republic is elected for seven (7) years by direct universal suffrage. He is re-eligible.
The election of the President of the Republic takes place by uninominal majority [majoritaire uninominal/first-past-the-post] ballot in two (2) rounds.

L'élection du Président de la République a lieu au scrutin majoritaire uninominal à deux (2) tours.

Head of State
- EnglishAll Gabonese of both sexes enjoying their civil and political rights are eligible to the Presidency of the Republic.
Any Gabonese benefitting from another nationality under [the] title of which they [il] exercised political or administrative responsibilities in another country, cannot stand [se porter] as a candidate.
Any person having acquired Gabonese nationality may not present themselves as a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. Only their [sa] descendants, having remained without discontinuity in Gabon can [do so], starting with the fourth generation.
... (Art. 10) - FrenchSont éligibles à la Présidence de la République, tous les gabonais des deux sexes jouissant de leurs droits civils et politiques.
Tout Gabonais bénéficiant d'une autre nationalité au titre de laquelle il a exercé des responsabilités politiques ou administratives dans un autre pays, ne peut se porter candidat.
Toute personne ayant acquis la nationalité gabonaise ne peut se présenter comme candidat à la Présidence de la République. Seule sa descendance ayant demeuré sans discontinuité au Gabon le peut, à partir de la quatrième génération.
