Head of State
- EnglishThe President of the Republic is the Head of the State. He is the guarantor of the national independence and [national] unity, of the territorial integrity, of the respect for the Constitution and of the international treaties and Agreements. … (Art. 58)

Head of State
- EnglishThe President of the Republic is elected by universal, free, direct and secret suffrage for a mandate of five (05) years renewable one sole time. … (Art. 59)
- FrenchLe Président de la République est élu au suffrage universel, libre, direct, égal et secret pour un mandat de cinq (05) ans renouvelable une seule fois. … (Art. 59)
Head of State
- EnglishNo one may be a candidate for the office of the President of the Republic if they:
– are not exclusively of Togolese nationality by birth;
– are not thirty-five (35) years of age on the date of the deposit of the candidature;
– do not enjoy all their civil and political rights;
– do not present a general state of physical and mental well-being duly declared by three (03) sworn physicians, designated by the Constitutional Court;
– do not reside in the national territory for at least twelve (12) months. (Art. 62) - FrenchNul ne peut être candidat aux fonctions de Président de la République s'il :
- n'est exclusivement de nationalité togolaise de naissance.
- n'est âgé de trente cinq (35) ans révolus à la date du dépôt de la candidature.
- ne jouit de tous ses droits civils et politiques.
- ne présente un état général de bien-être physique et mental dûment constaté par trois (3) médecins assermentés désignés par la Cour constitutionnelle.
- ne réside sur le territoire national depuis douze (12) mois au moins. (Art. 62)
