    In the Republic of Cuba, sovereignty resides nontransferably with the people, from which all of the State's power emanates. The people exercise this power directly and via Assemblies of People's Power and other organs of the State that are derived from them, in the form and according to the norms established by the Constitution and the laws. (Art. 3)

    The rights of assembly, demonstration, and association for legal and peaceful purposes are recognized by the State whenever they are exercised with respect to public order and in compliance with the precepts established by the law. (Art. 56)

    Cuban citizens have the right to participate in the formation, exercise, and monitoring of the power of the State, for which purpose they may, in accordance with the laws:
    a. Be registered within the electoral registry;
    b. Propose and nominate candidates;
    c. Elect officials and be elected for office;
    d. Participate in elections, plebiscites, referendums, popular consultations, as well as other forms of democratic participation;
    e. Make pronouncements regarding the release of documents or information for the purposes of accountability that are provided by elected officials;
    f. Revoke the mandate of elected officials;
    g. Exercise the powers of the legislature as well as the power of constitutional reform;
    h. Perform public functions or roles, and
    i. Be informed of the management of the organs and authorities of the State. (Art. 80)

    Los ciudadanos cubanos tienen derecho a participar en la conformación, ejercicio y control del poder del Estado; en razón a esto pueden, de conformidad con la Constitución y las leyes:
    a) estar inscriptos en el registro electoral;
    b) proponer y nominar candidatos;
    c) elegir y ser elegidos;
    d) participar en elecciones, plebiscitos, referendos, consultas populares y otras formas de participación democrática;
    e) pronunciarse sobre la rendición de cuenta que les presentan los elegidos;
    f) revocar el mandato de los elegidos;
    g) ejercer la iniciativa legislativa y de reforma de la Constitución;
    h) desempeñar funciones y cargos públicos; y
    i) estar informados de la gestión de los órganos y autoridades del Estado. (Art. 80)

    All citizens with the legal capacity to do so have the right to contribute to the management of the State, either directly or through their elected representatives within the organs of People's Power and to participate, for this purpose, in the form prescribed by the law, through periodic elections, plebiscites, and popular referendums that will be free, equal, direct, and secret. Every elector has the right to a single vote. (Art. 204)

    Todos los ciudadanos, con capacidad legal para ello, tienen derecho a intervenir en la dirección del Estado, bien directamente o por intermedio de sus representantes elegidos para integrar los órganos del Poder Popular y a participar, con ese propósito, en la forma prevista en la ley, en elecciones periódicas, plebiscitos y referendos populares, que serán de voto libre, igual, directo y secreto. Cada elector tiene derecho a un solo voto. (Art. 204)

    If the election is for representatives on the National Assembly of People's Power, they must be over the age of 18. (Art. 207)

    Tienen derecho a ser elegidos los ciudadanos cubanos, hombres y mujeres, que se hallen en el pleno goce de sus derechos políticos y que cumplan con los demás requisitos previstos en la ley.
    Si la elección es para diputados a la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular deben, además, ser mayores de dieciocho años de edad. (Art. 207)
