Status of the Constitution

    All people and bodies that exercise public authority are subject to the Constitution, supreme law and basis of the legal system of the State. All laws, decrees, resolutions, regulations or acts contrary to this Constitution are null of plain right. (Art. 6)

    Todas las personas y los órganos que ejercen potestades públicas están sujetos a la Constitución, norma suprema y fundamento del ordenamiento jurídico del Estado. Son nulos de pleno derecho toda ley, decreto, resolución, reglamento o acto contrarios a esta Constitución. (Art. 6)

    Acts that are issued from usurped authority, actions or decisions of public powers, institutions or persons that alter or subvert the constitutional order and any decision made by requisition of armed force are null of full right. (Art. 73)

    Son nulos de pleno derecho los actos emanados de autoridad usurpada, las acciones o decisiones de los poderes públicos, instituciones o personas que alteren o subviertan el orden constitucional y toda decisión acordada por requisición de fuerza armada. (Art. 73)

    The interpretation and regulation of the fundamental rights and guarantees, recognized in the present Constitution, shall be ruled by the following principles:

    3. Treaties, pacts, and conventions related to human rights, adopted and ratified by the Dominican State have constitutional hierarchy and are for direct and immediate application by the courts and other organs of the State.

    La interpretación y reglamentación de los derechos y garantías fundamentales, reconocidos en la presente Constitución, se rigen por los principios siguientes:

    3) Los tratados, pactos y convenciones relativos a derechos humanos, suscritos y ratificados por el Estado dominicano, tienen jerarquía constitucional y son de aplicación directa e inmediata por los tribunales y demás órganos del Estado;

    The fundamental rights recognized in this Constitution determine the existence of an order of judicial and moral responsibility that rules the conduct of men and women in society. Consequently, the following are declared as fundamental duties of people:
    1. To obey and follow the Constitution and the laws, to respect and obey the authorities established by it.

    Los derechos fundamentales reconocidos en esta Constitución determinan la existencia de un orden de responsabilidad jurídica y moral, que obliga la conducta del hombre y la mujer en sociedad. En consecuencia, se declaran como deberes fundamentales de las personas los siguientes:
    1) Acatar y cumplir la Constitución y las leyes, respetar y obedecer las autoridades establecidas por ellas;
