The Nicaraguan State recognizes the person, the family and the community as the origin and the end of its activity, and it is organized to assure [asegurar] the common good, assuming the task of promoting the human development of all and each one of the Nicaraguans, under the inspiration of Christian values, socialist ideals, practices of solidarity, [and] democratic and humanistic [practices], as universal and general values, as well as the values and ideals of the Nicaraguan culture and identity. (Art. 4)

El Estado nicaragüense reconoce a la persona, la familia y la comunidad como el origen y el fin de su actividad, y está organizado para asegurar el bien común, asumiendo la tarea de promover el desarrollo humano de todos y cada uno de los nicaragüenses, bajo la inspiración de valores cristianos, ideales socialistas, prácticas solidarias, democráticas y humanísticas, como valores universales y generales, así como los valores e ideales de la cultura e identidad nicaragüense. Marriage and stable common law unions are protected by the State; they rest on the voluntary agreement of the man and the woman and may be dissolved by the mutual consent or by the will of one of the parties. The law will regulate this matter. (Art. 72)

El matrimonio y la unión de hecho estable están protegidos por el Estado; descansan en el acuerdo voluntario del hombre y la mujer y podrán disolverse por el mutuo consentimiento o por la voluntad de una de las partes. La ley regulará esta materia. (Art. 72)

Family relations rest on the respect for, solidarity with and [the] absolute equality of rights and responsibilities between the man and the woman.
Parents must attend to the maintaining of the home and the integral development of their children through common effort, with equal rights and responsibilities. The children in their turn, are obligated to respect and assist their parents. These duties and rights will be fulfilled in accordance with the legislation on the matter. (Art. 73) - Spanish
Las relaciones familiares descansan en el respeto, solidaridad e igualdad absoluta de derechos y responsabilidades entre el hombre y la mujer.
Los padres deben atender el mantenimiento del hogar y la formación integral de los hijos mediante el esfuerzo común, con iguales derechos y responsabilidades. Los hijos a su vez, están obligados a respetar y ayudar a sus padres. Estos deberes y derechos se cumplirán de acuerdo con la legislación de la materia. (Art. 73)

The State grants special protection to the process of human reproduction.
The woman will have special protection during pregnancy and will enjoy leave [licencia] with paid remuneration and adequate benefits of social security.
No one may deny employment to women for reasons of pregnancy, nor dismiss them during it or the post-natal period; all in accordance with the law. (Art. 74) - Spanish
El Estado otorga protección especial al proceso de reproducción humana.
La mujer tendrá protección especial durante el embarazo y gozará de licencia con remuneración salarial y prestaciones adecuadas de seguridad social.
Nadie podrá negar empleo a las mujeres aduciendo razones de embarazo ni despedirlas durante éste o en el período postnatal; todo de conformidad con la ley. (Art. 74)
