Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2008
Head of State

1. His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo is the Head of State and the symbol of unity of the Kingdom and of the people of Bhutan.
2. The Chhoe-sid-nyi of Bhutan shall be unified in the person of the Druk Gyalpo who, as a Buddhist, shall be the upholder of the Chhoe-sid.
3.The title to the Golden Throne of Bhutan shall vest in the legitimate descendants of Druk Gyalpo Ugyen Wangchuck as enshrined in the inviolable and historic Gyenja of the Thirteenth Day, Eleventh Month of the Earth Monkey Year, corresponding to the Seventeenth Day of December, Nineteen Hundred and Seven and shall:
(a) Pass only to children born of lawful marriage;
(b) Pass by hereditary succession to the direct lineal descendants on the abdication or demise of the Druk Gyalpo, in order of seniority, with a prince taking precedence over a princess, subject to the requirement that, in the event of shortcomings in the elder prince, it shall be the sacred duty of the Druk Gyalpo to select and proclaim the most capable prince or princess as heir to the Throne;
(c) Pass to the child of the Queen who is pregnant at the time of the demise of the Druk Gyalpo if no heir exists under section 3(b);
(d) Pass to the nearest collateral line of the descendants of the Druk Gyalpo in accordance with the principle of lineal descent, with preference being given for elder over the younger, if the Druk Gyalpo has no direct lineal descendant;
(e) Not pass to children incapable of exercising the Royal Prerogatives by reason of physical or mental infirmity.
(f) Not pass to a person entitled to succeed to the Throne who enters into a marriage with a person other than a natural born citizen of Bhutan.

6. Upon reaching the age of sixty-five years, the Druk Gyalpo shall step down and hand over the Throne to the Crown Prince or Crown Princess, provided the Royal Heir has come of age.

༡) འབྲུག་མངའ་བདག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་རྒྱལ་ཁམས་ཀྱི་དབུ་ཁྲིད་དང་ རྒྱལ་ཁབ་དང་འབྲུག་པའི་མི་ སེར་གཅིག་མཐུན་གྱི་ བརྡ་མཚོན་ཨིན།
༢) འབྲུག་གི་ཆོས་སྲིད་གཉིས་ཀྱི་གནས་ལུགས་འདི་ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་གི་སྐུ་ངོ་བོར་འདུས་པ་ལས་ སངས་རྒྱས་པའི་ཆོས་འཛིན་འབྲུག་གི་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་ ཆོས་སྲིད་གཉིས་ཆ་རའི་བསྟན་པ་འཛིན་མི་ཨིན།
༣) འབྲུག་གི་གསེར་ཁྲིའི་བདག་དབང་འདི་ འགྱུར་ལྡོག་མེད་པའི་རྒྱལ་རབས་ཅན་གྱི་གན་རྒྱ་གནམ་ ལོ་ས་སྤྲེལ་ཟླ་བཅུ་གཅིག་པའི་ཚེས་བཅུ་གསུམ་དང་ སྤྱི་ལོ་གཅིག་སྟོང་དགུ་བརྒྱ་བདུན་ ཟླ་བཅུ་ གཉིས་པའི་ཚེས་བཅུ་བདུན་ཅན་མར་བཀོད་དོན་ལྟར་ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་གོང་ས་ཨོ་རྒྱན་དབང་ཕྱུག་ གི་ཁྲིམས་མཐུན་གདུང་བརྒྱུད་གཙང་མ་ཚུ་ལུ་ཡོད་མི་འདི་ཡང་།
ཀ༽ ཁྲིམས་མཐུན་ཁབ་ཏུ་བཞེས་མི་ལས་འཁྲུངས་པའི་སྲས་སྲོས་ཁོ་ན་ལུ་ བཅོལ་གཏད་ མཛད་ནི་དང་།
ཁ༽ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་ རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་སྤང་བ་ ཡང་ན་ཞིང་ལུ་ཕེབས་ད་ དངོས་བརྒྱུད་ གདུང་འཛིན་ཚུ་ལུ་རྒྱལ་བརྒྱུད་ཀྱི་ འཛིན་རིམ་བཅོལ་གཏད་འདི་ རྒན་རིམ་དང་ བསྟུན་ཏེ་ སྲས་མོ་ཚུ་ལས་སྲས་ཅིག་གིས་འདེམས་རིམ་ཧེ་མ་བཟུང་ནི་ཨིན་རུང་ གལ་སྲིད་སྲས་སྦོམ་ཤོས་འདི་ལུ་སྐྱོན་ཆ་རེ་འབྱུང་ཚེ་ དགོས་མཁོ་དང་བསྟུན་ ལྕོགས་གྲུབ་ཆེ་ཤོས་ཀྱི་སྲས་ ཡང་ན་སྲས་མོ་འདི་ རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་འཛིན་མིར་གདམ་ཁ་ གནང་ཞིནམ་ལས་ དེ་ལུགས་ཀྱི་བཀའ་ཁྱབ་གནང་ནི་འདི་ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་གི་ ཕྱག་འགན་དམ་ཟབ་ཅན་ཅིག་ཨིན།
ག༽ དོན་ཚན་༣ པ་ཁ༽ པའི་ནང་གསལ་ལྟར་གྱི་རྒྱལ་བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་མི་མེད་ཚེ་ འབྲུག་ རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་ཞིང་ལུ་ ཕེབས་པའི་དུས་ཚོད་ལུ་ བཙུན་མོའི་ལྷུམས་སུ་ཡོད་མི་སྲས་ སྲོས་དེ་ལུ་རྒྱལ་བརྒྱུད་བཅོལ་གཏད་མཛད་ནི་ཨིན།
ང་༽ གལ་སྲིད་ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་ལུ་ཐད་ཀར་གྱི་དངོས་བརྒྱུད་གདུང་འཛིན་མེད་ཚེ་ དངོས་བརྒྱུད་ གདུང་འཛིན་གྱི་གཞི་རྩ་དང་འཁྲིལ་ཏེ་ འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་གི་གདུང་ བརྒྱུད་ཉེ་ཤོས་ཀྱི་གཞོན་ཤོས་ལས་ རྒན་ཤོས་གདམ་ཁ་རྐྱབ་སྟེ་བཅོལ་གཏད་མཛད་ནི་ཨིན།
ཅ༽ སྐུ་གཟུགས་ ཡང་ན་ དྲན་ཤེས་བརྟན་པོ་མེདཔ་ལས་ རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཁྱད་དབང་སྤྱོད་ ནིའི་ལྕོགས་གྲུབ་མེད་པའི་ སྲས་སྲོས་ལུ་བཅོལ་གཏད་མཛད་ནི་མེད།
ཆ༽ རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་འཛིན་ནིའི་ཐོབ་རིམ་ཡོད་མི་ཅིག་གིས་ རང་བཞིན་སྐྱེས་ལུང་ལས་བརྟེན་པའི་ འབྲུག་གི་མི་སེར་ མ་ཡིན་མི་ཅིག་དང་གཉེན་སྦྱོར་མཛད་ཚེ་ དེ་ལུ་བཅོལ་གཏད་ མཛད་ནི་མེད།

༦) འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཆོག་དགུང་ལོ་དྲུག་ཅུ་རེ་ལྔ་བཞེསཔ་ད་ བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་གྱི་སྲས་ ཡང་ན་ སྲས་མོ་འདི་ ལོ་ཚད་ལོན་པ་ཡིན་ཚེ་ ཁྲི་ལས་བབ་སྟེ་རྒྱལ་བརྒྱུད་འཛིན་མི་འདི་ལུ་རྒྱལ་ཁྲི་རྩིས་སྤྲོད་མཛད་ནི་ཨིན།
