Participation in Public Life and Institutions

1. Every Jordanian shall be entitled to hold public offices under the conditions prescribed in law or regulations.
2. Appointment to public offices, whether permanent or temporary, in the State and the departments attached thereto and the municipalities shall be on the basis of merits and qualifications. (Art. 22) - Arabic
1. لكل أردني حق في تولي المناصب العامة بالشروط المعيّنة. بالقوانين أو الأنظمة.
2. التّعيين للوظائف العامة من دائمة ومؤقتة في الدولة والإدارات الملحقة بها والبلديات يكون على أساس الكفاءات والمؤهلات. (المادّة 22)

Constitution of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan 1952, as amended to 2016 (English). We are aware amendments to the present constitution were adopted in 2022. To date, no English consolidated version is available publicly. Translation efforts are underway. According to Art. 2: “Islam is the religion of the State and Arabic is its official language.”
