Status of the Constitution

    The King shall upon his succession to the Throne take an oath before the Parliament, which shall convene under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the Senate, to uphold the Constitution and be loyal to the Nation. (Art. 29)

    يقسم الملك اثر تبوئه العرش امام مجلس الامة الذي يلتئم برئاسة رئيس مجلس الاعيان ان يحافظ على الدستور وان يخلص للأمة. (المادّة 29)

Status of the Constitution
  • English

    1. The laws issued in accordance with this Constitution for the regulation of rights and freedoms may not influence the essence of such rights or affect their fundamentals.
    2. All laws, regulations and other legislative acts in force in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan when this Constitution comes into force shall remain in force until they are repealed or amended by a legislation issued thereunder within a maximum period of three years. (Art. 128)

    1. لا يجوز أن تؤثر القوانين التي تصدر بموجب هذا الدستور لتنظيم الحقوق والحريات على جوهر هذه الحقوق أو تمس أساسياتها.
    2. إن جميع القوانين والأنظمة وسائر الأعمال التشريعية المعمول بها في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية عند نفاذ هذا الدستور تبقى نافذة إلى أن تلغى أو تعدل بتشريع يصدر بمقتضاه وذلك خلال مدة أقصاها ثلاث سنوات. (المادة 128)

Constitution of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan 1952, as amended to 2016 (English). We are aware amendments to the present constitution were adopted in 2022. To date, no English consolidated version is available publicly. Translation efforts are underway. According to Art. 2: “Islam is the religion of the State and Arabic is its official language.”
