- English(1) The family is founded on the freely consented marriage of the spouses, their full equality, as well as the right and duty of the parents to ensure the upbringing, education and instruction of their children.
(2) The terms for entering into marriage dissolution and nullity of marriage shall be established by law. Religious wedding may be celebrated only after the civil marriage.
(3) Children born out of wedlock are equal before the law with those born in wedlock. (Art. 48) - Romanian(1) Familia se întemeiază pe căsătoria liber consimţită între soţi, pe egalitatea acestora şi pe dreptul şi îndatorirea părinţilor de a asigura creşterea, educaţia şi instruirea copiilor.
(2) Condiţiile de încheiere, de desfacere şi de nulitate a căsătoriei se stabilesc prin lege. Căsătoria religioasă poate fi celebrată numai după căsătoria civilă.
(3) Copiii din afara căsătoriei sunt egali în faţa legii cu cei din căsătorie. (Art. 48)

(1) The right to marry and found a family is guaranteed by law.
(2) A civil monogamous marriage between a man and a woman is the only recognised marital union.
(3) However, a monogamous marriage between a man and a woman contracted outside Rwanda in accordance with the law of the country of celebration of the marriage is recognised.
(4) No one can enter into marriage without his or her free and full consent.
(5) Spouses are entitled to equal rights and obligations at the time of marriage, during the marriage and at the time of divorce.
(6) A law determines conditions, formalities and effects of marriage. (Art. 17) - Kinyarwanda

(1) Le droit de se marier et de fonder une famille est garanti par la loi.
(2) Le mariage civil monogamique entre un homme et une femme est la seule union conjugale reconnue.
(3) Toutefois, le mariage monogamique entre un homme et une femme contractée à l’étranger conformément à la loi du pays de célébration de ce mariage est reconnu.
(4) Nul ne peut contracter le mariage sans son libre et plein consentement.
(5) Les époux ont les mêmes droits et les mêmes obligations au moment du mariage, dans le mariage et lors du divorce.
(6) Une loi détermine les conditions, les formalités et les effets du mariage. (Art. 17)

- Englisha. The family is the basis of society, deriving its strength from religion, morality and love of the homeland. The law preserves its lawful entity, strengthens its bonds and values, under its aegis extends protection to mothers and children, tends the young and protects them from exploitation and safeguards them against moral, bodily and spiritual neglect. The State cares in particular for the physical, moral and intellectual development of the young.
b. The State guarantees reconciling the duties of women towards the family with their work in society, and their equality with men in political, social, cultural, and economic spheres without breaching the provisions of Islamic canon law (Shari’a).
c. The State guarantees the requisite social security for its citizens in old age, sickness, disability, orphanhood, widowhood or unemployment, and also provides them with social insurance and healthcare services. It strives to safeguard them against ignorance, fear and poverty.
d. Inheritance is a guaranteed right governed by the Islamic Shari’a. (Art. 5) - Arabicأ - الأسرة أساس المجتمع، قوامها الدين والأخلاق وحب الوطن، يحفظ القانون كيانـها الشرعي، ويقوي أواصرها وقيمها، ويحمي في ظلها الأمومة والطفولة، ويرعى النشء، ويحميه من الاستغلال، ويقيه الإهمال الأدبي والجسماني والروحي. كما تـُعنى الدولة خاصة بنمو الشباب البدني والخلقي والعقلي.
ب - تكفل الدولة التوفيق بين واجبات المرأة نحو الأسرة وعملها في المجتمع، ومساواتها بالرجال في ميادين الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية والثـقافية والاقـتصادية دون إخلال بأحكام الشريعة الإسلامية.
ج - تكفل الدولة تحقيق الضمان الاجتماعي اللازم للمواطنين في حالة الشيخوخة أو المرض أو العجز عن العمل أو اليتم أو الترمل أو البطالة، كما تؤمّن لهم خدمات التأمين الاجتماعي والرعاية الصحية، وتعمل على وقايتهم من براثن الجهل والخوف والفاقة.
د - الميراث حق مكفول تحكمه الشريعة الإسلامي. (المادّة 5)
