The State commits to respecting the Constitution, the Rights of Man and the public freedoms. It sees to making them known and diffuses them among the population.
The State takes the necessary measures to integrate the Constitution, the Rights of Man and the public freedoms in the school and university programs of teaching as well as in the training of the forces of defense and of security, and of the agents of the Administration. (Art. 28) - French

a. the state has an obligation to promote universal respect for, and observance of, human rights and freedoms;
b. all persons in Jamaica are entitled to preserve for themselves and future generations the fundamental rights and freedoms to which they are entitled by virtue of their inherent dignity as persons and as citizens of a free and democratic society;

b. Parliament shall pass no law and no organ of the State shall take any action which abrogates, abridges or infringes those rights.

- EnglishThe object of this Constitution is to facilitate the building of the United Republic as a nation of equal and free individuals enjoying freedom, justice, fraternity and concord, through the pursuit of the policy of Socialism and Self Reliance which emphasizes the application of socialist principles while taking into account the conditions prevailing in the United Republic.
