- English1. The political parties are political organizations composed of persons who associate freely in order to participate in the political orientation of the State.
2. The political parties of Equatorial Guinea may not have identical denomination to those that pre-existed 12th October 1968, and they must have national character and scope, by which [they] may not be based on tribe, ethnicity, region, district, municipality, province, sex, religion, social condition, or profession or office. The renewal of the Legislative and Executive powers will be realized by way of free, authentic and periodic elections, in accordance with the following bases:
I. The political parties are entities of public interest; the law will determine the norms and requirements for their legal registration, the specific forms of their participation [intervención] in the electoral process and the rights, obligations and prerogatives that correspond to them. In the nomination [postulación] of their candidatures, the principle of parity of gender will be observed.

- EnglishPolitical parties express political pluralism, contribute to the formation and manifestation of the popular will, and are fundamental instruments of political participation, without prejudice to the freedom of electoral nomination in the form prescribed by this Constitution and by law. The internal structure and the functioning of political parties shall be based on democratic principles.
The law shall regulate the registration and the continued existence of political parties but in no case may provide that the minimum number of votes required for survival is higher than five percent (5%) of the valid votes cast in elections for President, members of the National Assembly, Mayors or Precinct Representatives, whichever is the vote in which the party concerned has been most successful.
