Status of the Constitution
- EnglishThe Constitution proclaimed by Decree No. 6, of the date of 8 January of 1962, published in the Diario Oficial, No. 110, Vol. 194, dated the 16th of the same month and year, adopted by Constituent Decree No. 3, of the 26th of April of 1982, published in the Diario Oficial, No. 75, Vol. 275, of the same date, its regime of exceptions, as well as all those provisions which are found in conflict with any precept of this Constitution, are abrogated [derógarse]. The Political Constitution is the fundamental charter of the Republic; the other laws are subordinate to it. Any laws, treaties, decrees, orders or provisions that oppose it or alter its provisions[,] have no validity [valor]. (Art. 182)

Status of the Constitution
- EnglishThe organs of the State must subject their action to the Constitution and to the norms adopted [dictar] in conformity with it, and guarantee the institutional order of the Republic.
The precepts of this Constitution obligate both the titular [officials] [titulares] or members [integrantes] of said organs, as well as any person, institution or group.
The infraction of this norm will generate the responsibilities and penalties that the law determines. (Art. 6) - SpanishLos órganos del Estado deben someter su acción a la Constitución y a las normas dictadas conforme a ella, y garantizar el orden institucional de la República.

- EnglishWhen an International Treaty affects a constitutional provision, it must be approved by the procedure that governs the reform of the Constitution, simultaneously the constitutional precept affected must be modified in the same sense by the same procedure before the Treaty being ratified by the Executive Power.
