- English(1) The Federal Chancellor shall be elected by the Bundestag without debate on the proposal of the Federal President.
(2) The person who receives the votes of a majority of the Members of the Bundestag shall be elected. The person elected shall be appointed by the Federal President.
(3) If the person proposed by the Federal President is not elected, the Bundestag may elect a Federal Chancellor within fourteen days after the ballot by the votes of more than one half of its Members.

- English1. The Prime Minister shall be appointed by the President of the Republic, following hearings with the political parties represented in the National Assembly and taking into consideration the election results.
2. The Ministers and Secretaries of State shall be appointed by the President of the Republic on the proposal of the Prime Minister.
3. Only a citizen of São Tomé origin, the child of a São Toméan father or mother, who does not hold any other nationality, may be appointed Prime Minister. (Art. 110) - Portuguese1. b. fulfill the voter's qualifications in accordance with the Electoral Law;
c. have attained at least the age of thirty Gregorian calendar years on election day; and

- English(1) There shall be a Prime Minister of the United Republic who shall be appointed by the President in accordance with the provisions of this Article and who, before assuming his office, shall take and subscribe before the President such oath of office of Prime Minister as may be prescribed by Parliament.
