The Senate assures the representation of the territorial collectivities and of the Ivoirians established outside the Côte d'Ivoire.
The Senators are elected, by two-thirds, by indirect universal suffrage. One third of the Senators are designated by the President of the Republic from among the Ivoirians recognized for their proven [avérées] expertise and competence in the political, administrative, economic, scientific, cultural, sports, professional and social domains.
