Status of the Constitution
- English1. The Constitution shall be the supreme law of the Republic of Angola.
2. The state shall be subject to the Constitution and shall be based on the rule of law, respecting the law and ensuring that the law is respected.
3. Laws, treaties and other acts of the state, local government bodies and public bodies in general shall only be valid if they conform to the Constitution. (Art. 6) - Portuguese1. A Constituição é a lei suprema da República de Angola.
2. O Estado subordina-se à Constituição e funda-se na legalidade, devendo respeitar e fazer respeitar as leis.
3. As leis, os tratados e os demais actos do Estado, dos órgãos do poder local e dos entes públicos em geral só são válidos se forem conformes à Constituição. (Art. 6)
Status of the Constitution
- English1. The state shall recognise the status, role and functions of the institutions of the traditional authorities founded in accordance with customary law which do not contradict the Constitution.
2. Recognition of the institutions of the traditional authorities shall oblige public and private entities to respect, in their relations with these institutions, the values and norms of customary law that are observed within traditional political and community organisations and do not conflict with the Constitution or the dignity of the human person. O Estado reconhece o estatuto, o papel e as funções das instituições do poder tradicional constituídas de acordo com o direito consuetudinário e que não contrariam a Constituição.
2. O reconhecimento das instituições do poder tradicional obriga as entidades públicas e privadas a respeitarem, nas suas relações com aquelas instituições, os valores e normas consuetudinários observados no seio das organizações político-comunitárias tradicionais e que não sejam conflituantes com a Constituição nem com a dignidade da pessoa humana. - English1. Sovereignty shall rest with the people who shall exercise it in accordance with the forms and under the terms foreseen in the Constitution.
2. The State shall be subordinate to the Constitution, shall be based on the democratic legality, and shall respect as well as enforce the laws.

- EnglishIf the Supreme Court, referred to [the matter] by the President of the Republic or by the President of the National Assembly, has declared that an international engagement contains a clause contrary to the Constitution, the authorization of ratification may only intervene after the revision of the Constitution.
