- EnglishThe Legislative Council shall consist of not more than 45 Members as follows —
(a) up to 30 persons who shall be appointed by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan from the following categories —
(i) ex-officio Members who comprise the Prime Minister and all the Ministers appointed under Article 4(3) of this Constitution;
(ii) titled persons;
(iii) persons who, in His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan’s opinion, have rendered distinguished public service or who are not within sub-paragraph (a)(iv) but who, in his opinion, will be capable of contributing to the deliberations of the Legislative Council;
(iv) persons who, in His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan’s opinion, have achieved distinction in the field of religion, management, any profession, business, trade, agriculture, cultural arts or community activities, or who are representatives of particular communities; and
(b) up to 15 representatives, the exact number of which shall be determined by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan, from Brunei and Muara District, Belait District, Tutong District and Temburong District who shall be elected in accordance with the laws relating to elections in force in Brunei Darussalam. (i) Ahli-Ahli Rasmi Kerana Jawatan yang terdiri daripada Perdana Menteri dan semua Menteri yang dilantik di bawah Perkara 4(3) dari Perlembagaan ini;

(iii) orang-orang yang, pada pendapat Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan, telah menyumbangkan perkhidmatan awam yang cemerlang atau mereka yang tidak termasuk dalam perenggan kecil (a)(iv) tetapi boleh, pada pendapat Baginda, menyumbang kepada perbahasan dalam Majlis Mesyuarat Negara;
(iv) orang-orang yang, pada pendapat Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan, telah mencapai tahap kecemerlangan dalam bidang keugamaan, pengurusan, sebarang profesion, perniagaan, perdagangan, pertanian, aktiviti-aktiviti kebudayaan, kesenian atau kemasyarakatan, atau yang mewakili masyarakat-masyarakat tertentu; dan
(b) sehingga 15 orang wakil, bilangan sebenarnya hendaklah ditentukan oleh Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan, dari Daerah Brunei Muara, Daerah Belait, Daerah Tutong dan Daerah Temburong yang akan dipilih menurut undang-undang berkenaan dengan pilihan raya yang berkuatkuasa di dalam Negara Brunei Darussalam. The Great and General Council, made up of 60 members, shall exercise the legislative power, direct and control the Government policy.
The electoral law, passed by an absolute majority, shall govern the election, the causes of ineligibility and disqualification, as well as the incompatibilities of the Council’s members. A law passed by a qualified majority shall discipline the guarantees and responsibilities of such members.
The Council’s members shall be elected by universal and direct suffrage for the duration of the legislature. Their mandate shall end with the dissolution of the Council or for the reasons indicated in the preceding paragraph.
The internal organisation and the functions of the Great and General Council shall be disciplined by the Council’s Rules of Procedure, adopted by an absolute majority of its members.

Al Consiglio Grande e Generale composto di sessanta membri, spetta il potere legislativo, la determinazione dell'indirizzo politico e l'esercizio delle funzioni di controllo.
La legge elettorale, adottata a maggioranza assoluta, disciplina l'elezione, le cause di ineleggibilità, di decadenza, il regime delle incompatibilità dei Consiglieri. Una legge qualificata disciplina il regime delle responsabilità e delle guarentigie dei Consiglieri.
I Consiglieri sono eletti a suffragio universale e diretto per la durata della legislatura. Il loro mandato ha termine con lo scioglimento del Consiglio o per le cause di cui al comma precedente.

- EnglishA person shall be qualified to be a candidate for election as a member of a Communal Chamber if at the time of the election that person—
a. is a citizen of the Republic and is registered in the respective communal electoral list;
b. has attained the age of twenty-five years,
c. has not been, on or after the date of the coming into operation of this Constitution, convicted of an offence involving dishonesty or moral turpitude or is not under any disqualification imposed by a competent court for an electoral offence,
