Together with the President there shall be elected, in the same manner and for the same term, a Vice-President who shall replace the President during his or her absence in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.     In order to be eligible as member of the National Assembly it is necessary:
    1. To be Panamanian by birth, or through naturalization, and to have resided for fifteen years in the country after naturalization;
    2. To be a citizen in the exercise of his/her legal rights;
    3. To be at least twenty one years of age at the time of election;
    4. Not to have been sentenced for premeditated offense to five years or more in prison by enforceable decision of a court of law;
    5. To be a resident of the respective constituency for at least one (1) year before being nominated for office. (Art. 153)

    Para ser Diputado se requiere:
    1. Ser panameño por nacimiento, o por naturalización con quince años de residencia en el país después de haber obtenido la nacionalización.
    2. Ser ciudadano en ejercicio.
    3. Haber cumplido por lo menos veintiún años de edad a la fecha de la elección.
    4. No haber sido condenado por delito doloso con pena privativa de la libertad de cinco años o más, mediante sentencia ejecutoriada, proferida por un tribunal de justicia.
    5. Ser residente del circuito electoral correspondiente, por lo menos un año inmediatamente anterior a la postulación. (Art. 153)
