The President of the Republic is elected by secret ballot, by a two-thirds majority of the votes cast in the Chamber of Deputies in the first round. The President's term in office is six years. La candidature au poste de Président de la République est un droit reconnu à tout tunisien ou tunisienne, qui n'est pas titulaire d'une autre nationalité, né(e) de père et de mère, de grands-pères paternel et maternel tunisiens, demeurés tous de nationalité tunisienne sans discontinuité.
Le candidat ou la candidate doit être, au jour du dépôt de sa candidature, âgé (e) de quarante ans au moins et jouir de ses droits civils et politiques.
La candidature est présentée à l’Instance supérieure indépendante pour les élections selon les modalités et conditions prévues par la loi électorale. (Art. 89)
