No one may be a candidate to the function of the President of the Republic or Vice President of the Republic if:
- [they are] not of Beninese nationality by birth or have acquired [it for] at least ten years;
- [they are] not of good morals and of grand probity;
- [they] do not enjoy all their civil and political rights;
- [they] are not at least already 40 years old and at most already 70 years old at the date of entering into [their] function;
- [they were] elected two (02) times President of the Republic and exercised two mandates as such;
- [they were] not present in the Republic of Benin at the time of the deposit of their candidature;
- [they] do not enjoy a complete state of physical and mental well-being duly stated by a board [college] of three (03) doctors designated under oath by the Constitutional Court.

Nul ne peut être candidat aux fonctions de Président de la République ou de vice-président de la République s'il :
- n'est de nationalité béninoise de naissance ou acquise depuis au moins dix ans ;
- n'est de bonne moralité et d'une grande probité;
- ne jouit de tous ses droits civils et politiques ;
- n'est âgé d’au moins 40 ans révolus et au plus 70 ans révolus à la date d’entrée en fonction ;
- a été élu deux (02) fois Président de la République et a exercé comme tel deux mandats ;
- n'est présent en République du Bénin lors du dépôt de sa candidature ;
- ne jouit d'un état complet de bien-être physique et mental dûment constaté par un collège de trois médecins assermentés désignés par la Cour constitutionnelle.
