He [or she] will be elected on the same ballot as the President of the Republic, in an identical form and for the same term.
The Vice-President must meet the same qualifications as the President of the Republic, [he or she] will enjoy similar immunities, and will hold in the hierarchical order of the State, the level immediately below that functionary. Vice-President
- English(1) The Vice-President shall be elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of the members of both Houses of Parliament in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting at such election shall be by secret ballot.
(2) The Vice-President shall not be a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of the Legislature of any State, and if a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of the Legislature of any State be elected Vice-President, he shall be deemed to have vacated his seat in that House on the date on which he enters upon his office as Vice-President.
(3) No person shall be eligible for election as Vice-President unless he—
(a) is a citizen of India;
(b) has completed the age of thirty-five years; and
(c) is qualified for election as a member of the Council of States.
… (Art. 66) - Hindi(1) उपराष्ट्रपति का निर्वाचन संसद के दोनों सदनों के सदस्यों से मिलकर बनने वाले निर्वाचकगण के सदस्यों द्वारा आनुपातिक प्रतिनिधित्व पद्धति के अनुसार एकल संक्रमणीय मत द्वारा होगा और ऐसे निर्वाचन मंल मतदान गुप्त होगा।
(2) उपराष्ट्रपति संसद के किसी सदन का या किसी राज्य के विधान-मंडल के किसी सदन का सदस्य नहीं होगा और यदि संसद के किसी सदन का या किसी राज्य के विधान-मंडल के किसी सदन का कोई सदस्य उपराष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित हो जाता है तो यह समझा जाएगा कि उसने उस सदन में अपना स्थान उपराष्ट्रपति के रूप में अपने पदग्रहण की तारीख से रिक्त कर दिया है।
(3) कोई व्यक्ति उपराष्ट्रपति निर्वाचित होने का पात्र तभी होगा जब वह—
(क) भारत का नागरिक है;
(ख) पैंतीस वर्ष की आयु पूरी कर चुका है; और
(ग) राज्य सभा का सदस्य निर्वाचित होने के लिए अर्हित है।

Vice-President
- English1. The President and the Vice-President are elected by the National Assembly for five years. The term of office of the President is terminated at the swearing in of a newly appointed President. If the office becomes vacant, then the following President to be elected begins a new term of office.

(1) In any election to which the foregoing provisions of this Part of this Chapter8 relate, a candidate for an election to the office of President shall not be deemed to be validly nominated unless he nominates another candidate as his associate from the same political party for his running for the office of President, who is to occupy the office of Vice-President and that candidate shall be deemed to have been duly elected to the office of Vice-President if the candidate for an election to the office of President who nominated him as such associate is duly elected as President in accordance with the provisions aforesaid.
(2) The provisions of this Part of this Chapter relating to qualification for election, tenure of office, disqualification, declaration of assets and liabilities and oaths of President shall apply in relation to the office of Vice-President as if references to President were references to Vice-President.
