Status of the Constitution
- EnglishThe Constitution will not lose its force and effect, even when its observance is interrupted by any rebellion. In case that by any public disorder [tastorno], a government contrary to the principles that it sanctions is established, as soon as the people recover their liberty, its observance will be reestablished, and in accordance with it and the laws that have been adopted [expedido] by virtue of it, those who have figured in the government emanating from the rebellion, as well as those who have cooperated with it, will be tried [juzgados]. (Art. 136)
- SpanishEsta Constitución no perderá su fuerza y vigor, aun cuando por alguna rebelión se interrumpa su observancia. En caso de que por cualquier trastorno público, se establezca un gobierno contrario a los principios que ella sanciona, tan luego como el pueblo recobre su libertad, se restablecerá su observancia, y con arreglo a ella y a las leyes que en su virtud se hubieren expedido, serán juzgados, así los que hubieren figurado en el gobierno emanado de la rebelión, como los que hubieren cooperado a ésta. - English1. This Constitution is the supreme law of Uganda and shall have binding force on all authorities and persons throughout Uganda.
2. If any other law or any custom is inconsistent with any of the provisions of this Constitution, the Constitution shall prevail, and that other law or custom shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void. (Art. 2)

- EnglishThis Constitution is the supreme law of Saint Vincent and, subject to the provisions of this Constitution, if any other law is inconsistent with this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail and the other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void. (Sec. 101)

(1) The existing law shall continue to be in force but shall be construed with such modifications, adaptations, qualifications and exceptions as may be necessary to bring it into conformity with sections 12 to 235 of this Constitution.
(2) For the purpose of this section “existing law” means a law that
(a) was enacted or made before 30th November, 1966 and has continued to be part of the law of Barbados at all times since that day;
(b) re-enacted a law that was enacted or made before 30th November, 1966 without alteration; or
(c) altered a law that was enacted or made before 30th November, 1966 and does not thereby render that law inconsistent with sections 12 to 23 of this Constitution in a manner in which, or to an extent to which, it was not previously so inconsistent.
