Any reference in this Chapter2 to the national status of the father of a person at the time of that person's birth shall, in relation to a person born after the death of his father, be construed as a reference to the national status of the father at the time of the father's death; and where that death occurred before 1st November 1981 the national status that the father would have had if he had died on that day shall be deemed to be his national status at the time of his death:
Provided that in the case of a child born out of wedlock references to the mother shall be substituted for such references to the father.
2. In this Chapter-
"child" includes a child born out of wedlock and not legitimated;
"father", in relation to a child born out of wedlock and not legitimated, includes a person who acknowledges and can show that he is the father of the child or has been found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be the father of the child;
"parent" includes the mother of a child born out of wedlock.

- English(1) Subject to subsection (2), every person born in Trinidad and Tobago after the commencement of this Constitution shall become a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago at the date of his birth.
(2) A person shall not become a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago by virtue of subsection (1), if at the time of his birth—
(a) neither of his parents is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and either of them possesses such immunity from suit and legal process as is accorded to an envoy of a foreign sovereign power accredited to Trinidad and Tobago; or
(b) either of his parents is an enemy alien and the birth occurred in a place then under occupation by the enemy.
(3) A person born outside Trinidad and Tobago after the commencement of this Constitution shall become a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago at the date of his birth if at that date either of his parents is, or was, but for his parent’s death, a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago otherwise than by descent, so however that, in the case of a person employed in service under the Government or under an authority of the Government that requires him to reside outside Trinidad and Tobago for the proper discharge of his functions, this subsection shall be read as if the words “otherwise than by descent” were deleted.
(4) Any person who became a citizen by birth under section 12(1) or a citizen by descent under section 12(2) of the former Constitution and who has not ceased to be a citizen under that Constitution, shall continue to be a citizen under this Constitution.
(5) A person born outside Trinidad and Tobago after the 30th August, 1962 whose mother was a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago otherwise than by descent at the date of his birth but who did not become a citizen at that date shall be deemed to have become a citizen at that date and shall continue to be a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago under this Constitution. Every person born in Barbados after 29th November 1966 shall become a citizen of Barbados at the date of his birth: Provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Barbados by virtue of this section if at the time of his birth—
(a) his father possesses such immunity from suit and legal process as is accorded to an envoy of a foreign sovereign State accredited to Barbados and neither of his parents is a citizen of Barbados; or

(1) A person who-
(a) is born in the country on or after Independence Day; and
(b) had one parent who was a citizen or who, if he had survived on Independence Day, would have been or would have been entitled to become, such a citizen, is a citizen.
(2) A person-
(a) who is born outside the country on or after Independence Day; and
(b) who had one parent who was a citizen or who, if he had survived to Independence Day, would have been, or would have been entitled to become, such a citizen; and
(c) whose birth is registered as prescribed by or under an Act of the Parliament made for the purposes of this subsection, is a citizen.
(3) A person who has or had one parent or grandparent who, under Subsection (1)-
(a) is or was a citizen; or
(b) is or was qualified to be a citizen, and, who does not fall under Subsection (2), may apply to the Minister responsible for citizenship matters to be a citizen by descent, and the Minister may, if he is satisfied as to the matters referred to in Subsection (5), in his deliberate judgement (but subject to Division 4 (citizenship advisory committee)) grant or refuse the application.
(4) A person who is the spouse of a citizen may apply to the Minister responsible for citizenship matters to be a citizen by marriage, and the Minister may, if he is satisfied as to the matters referred to in Subsection (6), in his deliberate judgement (but subject to Division 4 (citizenship advisory committee)) grant or refuse the application.
(5) To be eligible for citizenship by descent under Subsection (3), a person must-
(a) prior to the application being made in the thlee years preceding it, been resident in the country for a total of 12 months; and
(b) be of good character; and
(c) subject to Section 64,3 renounce, in such a manner as is prescribed by or under an Act of the Parliament, any other citizenship and make the Declaration of Loyalty.
(6) To be eligible for citizenship by marriage under Subsection (4), a person must-
(a) prior to the application being made in the three years preceding it, been resident in the country for a total of 12 months; and
(b) be of good character;
(c) be in a marriage that is not a marriage under Papua New Guinean custom but is otherwise genuine and valid under Papua New Guinea laws; and
(d) subject to Section 64, renounce, in such a manner as is prescribed by or under all Act of the Parliament, any other citizenship and make the Declaration of Loyalty. (Sec. 66)

I. by birth:
a. those born in the Federative Republic of Brazil, even though of foreign parents, provided that they are not in the service of their country;
b. those born abroad of a Brazilian father or mother, so long as either is in the service of the Federative Republic of Brazil;
c. those born abroad of a Brazilian father or mother, so long as they are registered at a proper Brazilian governmental office, or come to reside in the Federative Republic of Brazil and opt for Brazilian nationality at any time after reaching the age of majority;
II. by naturalization:
a. those who, as set forth by law, acquire Brazilian nationality; for persons whose country of origin is Portuguese-speaking, only one uninterrupted year of residence and good moral character are required;
b. foreigners of any nationality, resident in the Federative Republic of Brazil for more than fifteen uninterrupted years and without any criminal conviction, provided they request Brazilian nationality.

I. whose naturalization has been cancelled by judicial decision because of activity harmful to the national interest;
II. acquires another nationality, except in the cases:
a. of recognition of original nationality by foreign law;

b) os estrangeiros de qualquer nacionalidade, residentes na República Federativa do Brasil há mais de quinze anos ininterruptos e sem condenação penal, desde que requeiram a nacionalidade brasileira.

§ 4º - Será declarada a perda da nacionalidade do brasileiro que:
I - tiver cancelada sua naturalização, por sentença judicial, em virtude de atividade nociva ao interesse nacional;
II - adquirir outra nacionalidade, salvo nos casos:
a) de reconhecimento de nacionalidade originária pela lei estrangeira;
b) de imposição de naturalização, pela norma estrangeira, ao brasileiro residente em estado estrangeiro, como condição para permanência em seu território ou para o exercício de direitos civis; (Art. 12)
