- EnglishThe State shall promote equality with respect to the representation of women and men in publicly appointed or elected office, in its executive and decision-making institutions, and political parties and movements. As for candidacies in multi-person elections, their participation shall be respected by rotation of power and sequencing.
The State shall adopt affirmative action measures to guarantee the participation of discriminated sectors. 1. Political parties are created freely. Their organization shall conform with democratic principles.
2. Political parties and other organizations, whose programs and activity are based on totalitarian methods, that incite and support racial, religious, regional or ethnic hatred, that use violence to take power or influence state policies, as well as those with a secret character, are prohibited pursuant to the law.

The renewal of the Legislative and Executive powers will be realized by way of free, authentic and periodic elections, in accordance with the following bases:
I. The political parties are entities of public interest; the law will determine the norms and requirements for their legal registration, the specific forms of their participation [intervención] in the electoral process and the rights, obligations and prerogatives that correspond to them. - English1. Freedom of association includes the right to form or take part in political associations and parties and through them to work jointly and democratically towards the formation of the popular will and the organisation of political power.
2. No one may be simultaneously registered as a member of more than one political party, and no one may be deprived of the exercise of any right because he is or ceases to be registered as a member of any legally constituted party.
3. Without prejudice to the philosophy or ideology that underlies their manifestoes, political parties may not employ names that contain expressions which are directly related to any religion or church, or emblems that can be confused with national or religious symbols.
4. No party may be formed with a name or manifesto objectives that show it has a regional nature or scope.
5. Political parties must be governed by the principles of democratic transparency, organisation and management, and participation by all their members.
6. The law shall lay down the rules governing the financing of political parties, particularly as regards the requisites for and limits on public funding, as well as the requirements to publicise their assets and accounts. A liberdade de associação compreende o direito de constituir ou participar em associações e partidos políticos e de através deles concorrer democraticamente para a formação da vontade popular e a organização do poder político.
2. Ninguém pode estar inscrito simultaneamente em mais de um partido político nem ser privado do exercício de qualquer direito por estar ou deixar de estar inscrito em algum partido legalmente constituído.
3. Os partidos políticos não podem, sem prejuízo da filosofia ou ideologia inspiradora do seu programa, usar denominação que contenha expressões directamente relacionadas com quaisquer religiões ou igrejas, bem como emblemas confundíveis com símbolos nacionais ou religiosos.
4. Não podem constituir-se partidos que, pela sua designação ou pelos seus objectivos programáticos, tenham índole ou âmbito regional.

The affiliation with a political party is free.
None may be the object of discriminatory measures by virtue of their affiliation with a political party or by the fact that they do not affiliate with any political formation.
It is prohibited to the political parties to identify themselves with a department, with a commune, with a district, with an urban or rural community, with a religion, with an ethnic group [ethnie] or with a clan.

Political Parties
- English1. In the Republic of Guinea-Bissau the establishment of political parties is allowed if in conformity with the Constitution and the law.
2. Political parties are equally responsible for [assuring] the organization and the expression of popular will and of political plurality.
3. Parties must respect the national independence and unity, the integrity of national territory and the pluralist democracy, and must follow the democratic rules in both their organization and functioning.
4. The formation of parties of regional or local nature, parties that sponsor racism or tribalism, and of parties that advocate the use of violent means to achieve its ends is forbidden.
5. The party’s name may not identify itself with any part of the national territory, nor display the name of a person, church, religion, confession or religious doctrine.
6. The highest leadership of parties must be composed of citizens of Guinean origin. (Art. 4) - Portuguese1 - Na República da Guiné-Bissau é livre a constituição de partidos políticos nos termos da Constituição e da lei.
2 - Os partidos políticos concorrem para a organização e expressão da vontade popular e do pluralismo político.
