    The de facto union of persons of different sex with the legal capacity to enter into marriage which is sustained for five consecutive years in conditions of single partnership and stability shall produce the full effects of a civil marriage.
    To this end, it shall be sufficient the interested parties jointly request the Civil Registrar to register the de facto union. As long as this request has not been made, the marriage may be proved, for the purpose of claiming the rights pertaining thereto, by any of the spouses concerned in accordance with the procedures established by law. However, the Public Ministry, in the interest of morals and of the law, or third persons who assert rights susceptible of being affected by the registration, may object to the registration or challenge it subsequently on the ground that the declaration is contrary to the facts.     La unión de hecho entre personas de distinto sexo legalmente capacitadas para contraer matrimonio, mantenida durante cinco años consecutivos en condiciones de singularidad y estabilidad, surtirá todos los efectos del matrimonio civil. Para este fin, bastará que las partes interesadas soliciten conjuntamente al Registro Civil la inscripción del matrimonio de hecho. Cuando no se haya efectuado esa solicitud, el matrimonio podrá comprobarse, para los efectos de la reclamación de sus derechos, por uno de los cónyuges u otro interesado, mediante los trámites que determine la Ley. Podrán, no obstante, oponerse a que se haga la inscripción o impugnarla después de hecha, el Ministerio Público en interés de la moral y de la Ley, o los terceros que aleguen derechos susceptibles de ser afectados por la inscripción, si la declaración fuere contraria a la realidad de los hechos.     Parental authority (patria potestad) is the aggregate of rights and duties parents have in respect to their children.
    Parents are obliged to support, educate and protect their children to ensure their proper physical and spiritual upbringing and development, and the latter are obliged to respect and assist their parents.
    The exercise of parental authority shall be regulated by law in accordance with social interests and the welfare of the children. (Art. 59)

    La patria potestad es el conjunto de deberes y derechos que tienen los padres en relación con los hijos.
    Los padres están obligados a alimentar, educar y proteger a sus hijos para que obtengan una buena crianza y un adecuado desarrollo físico y espiritual, y éstos a respetarlos y asistirlos.
    La Ley regulará el ejercicio de la patria potestad de acuerdo con el interés social y el beneficio de los hijos. (Art. 59)

    Parents have, with respect to their children born out of wedlock, the same duties as towards their children born in wedlock. All children are equal according to law, and have the same rights of inheritance in intestate successions. The rights of minors or incapacitated children and of destitute parents in testate successions, shall be recognized by law. (Art. 60)

Todos los hijos son iguales ante la Ley y tienen el mismo derecho hereditario en las sucesiones intestadas.     Investigation of paternity shall be regulated by law. Classifications as to the nature of the relationship are abolished. There shall not be entered any statement establishing differences of birth, or, on the civil status of the parents, in the registration records, or in any attestation, baptismal or christening records, or certificate referring to the relationship.
    Authority is hereby granted to the father of a child born before the effective date of this Constitution to protect the child by the provisions of this Article, by means of rectifying any record or attestation in which any classification may have been established with respect to said child. The consent of the mother is not required but if the child is of legal age, he/she must give his/her consent thereto. In acts of acknowledgement of paternity, anyone who is legally affected by said act may oppose this measure.
    Procedures shall be established by law. (Art. 61)

    La Ley regulará la investigación de la paternidad.
    Queda abolida toda calificación sobre la naturaleza de la filiación. No se consignará declaración alguna que establezca diferencia en los nacimientos o sobre el estado civil de los padres en las actas de inscripción de aquellos, ni en ningún atestado, partida de bautismo o certificado referente a la filiación.
    Se concede facultad al padre del hijo nacido con anterioridad a la vigencia de esta Constitución para ampararlo con lo dispuesto en este artículo, mediante la rectificación de cualquier acta o atestado en los cuales se halle establecida clasificación alguna con respecto a dicho hijo. No se requiere para esto el consentimiento de la madre. Si el hijo es mayor de edad, éste debe otorgar su consentimiento.
    En los actos de simulación de paternidad, podrá objetar esta medida quien se encuentre legalmente afectado por el acto.
    La Ley señalará el procedimiento. (Art. 61)

    The State shall protect the social and economic development of the family and shall organize the family homestead, determining the nature and amount of property that must constitute it, on the basis that it is inalienable and un-attachable. (Art. 62)

    The State shall create an Entity for the protection of the family, for the purposes of:
    1. Promoting responsible parenthood through family educational programs;
    2. Establishing educational programs for pre-school age children, in specialized centers, which children may attend upon the request of their parents or guardians;
    3. Protecting minors, and the elderly, and accomplishing the social readjustment of those who are abandoned, helpless, morally misguided, or who have behavior maladjustment problems.
    The functioning of a special jurisdiction over minors, which among other duties, shall take cognizance of suits concerning the investigation of paternity, family desertion, and juvenile behavior problems, shall be organized and determined by law. (Art. 63)

    El Estado creará un organismo destinado a proteger la familia con el fin de:
    1. Promover la paternidad y la maternidad responsables mediante la educación familiar.
    2. Institucionalizar la educación de los párvulos en centros especializados para atender aquellos cuyos padres o tutores así lo soliciten.
    3. Proteger a los menores y ancianos, y custodiar y readaptar socialmente a los abandonados, desamparados, en peligro moral o con desajustes de conducta.
    La Ley organizará y determinará el funcionamiento de la jurisdicción especial de menores la cual, entre otras funciones, conocerá sobre la investigación de la paternidad, el abandono de familia y los problemas de conducta juvenil. (Art. 63)

    Motherhood of the working woman is protected. The pregnant woman may not be separated from her public or private employment for this reason. For a minimum of six weeks prior to confinement and eight weeks thereafter, she is entitled to rest with the same remuneration that she was receiving, and her job shall be kept for her, as well as all the rights inherent to her contract. Upon returning to work, the mother may not be dismissed for one year, except in special cases prescribed by law, which shall in addition, regulate the special working conditions of the pregnant woman. (Art. 72)

    Se protege la maternidad de la mujer trabajadora. La que esté en estado de gravidez no podrá ser separada de su empleo público o particular por esta causa. Durante un mínimo de seis semanas precedentes al parto y las ocho que le siguen, gozará de descanso forzoso retribuido del mismo modo que su trabajo y conservará el empleo y todos los derechos correspondientes a su contrato. AI reincorporarse la madre trabajadora a su empleo no podrá ser despedida por el término de un año, salvo en casos especiales previstos en la Ley, la cual reglamentará además, las condiciones especiales de trabajo de la mujer en estado de preñez. (Art. 72)
